Basic fly tying materials?
I have just started to tie flys. i already have a vice and bobbin etc. I need to know if you use everyday sewing thread? or a special kind of thread? how about foam and pipe cleaners?
Also, what is a wet fly? are those the ones that can go into the water?
i also found this kit. is it a good one?

We can tie flies from literally any materials you might find about the house or hobby shop, but why not check out the assortment offered by a store that specializes in fly tying materials. There you will find an overwhelming abundance of goodies that make the selection even easier and the results even more satisfying. I have made more than a few lures and flies from oddities just for the fun of experimenting with what I could make out of necessity and still be able to catch fish. I have made some very effective spinning lures from women’s jewelry. Had an article published (“Getting A Handle On Homemade Lures”) on how to make bass and pike plugs from the discarded wooden and plastic handles from large paint brushes. And I have tied flies from feather dusters, cork, cigarette filters, fabric, vinyl/rubber toys, silk flowers, nylon rope, etc. Just let your imagination run with the possibilities and you open up a whole new world of fun with fish and fishing with flies. Especially those you made yourself.
As for wet fly versus dry fly: Wet flies fish under water and dry flies fish on the surface of the water. By adding buoyant materials (cork, foam, air bladders, etc.) to your own tied fly, you can turn what would have normally been a wet fly pattern into a floating dry fly. By adding more weight (lead or copper wraps) to the hook shank of a dry fly version, you can turn normally dry fly patterns into sinking wets.
Good luck and good fishing.

This might not be the most beneficial place to ask this, but I’m trying to find a pest control company within the pittsburgh area and have no way to find out who’s the very best. I discovered this business that’s actually close to me and wanted to see if anyone has any evaluations on them. Spectrum Pest Control, 3058 West Liberty Avenue, Dormont, PA 15216 – (412) 446-2802
