The rains of April flooding the Orotoco?
When the rains o April flood the valleys and the rivers of the Orotoco region the land becomes pregnant and fruitful and the pine trees tower above the rest, irreverently.
In the centre of Orotoco the oak trees are enormous and the willows that border the banks of the rivers thrive in abundance. Fish fly over the water going upstream and downstream in spectacular fashion and the eels camouflage discreetly amongst the plants and around the rocks.
I cast a glance at the horizon and see the apple trees spreading vast and dominant over the landscape; it is a sea of colours red, green and yellow and it is spectacular.
Night approaches dark and serene and the clouds are arrested above. Shadows form here and there and the day extinguishes its existence indolently.
Please tell me if this is at least slightly above mediocrity.
It’s pretty good – an interesting amalgamation of terse and flowery prose. It feels like there should be a lot more said, but it’s left to the reader to fill in the gaps.
Don’t take my word for it, though, what do you think about it? Does it make you proud to read it? Do you feel like it accomplishes what you set out to do? Does the style fit into the overall context, or does it feel plugged in?
